Acne : What is it and What Causes it – The Basic Science

Basic Scientific Background of Acne Explained:

For those who desire a basic scientific background on acne, the following series of articles will bring you up to speed with scientific accuracy but with the ease of common language and metaphor. Effective treatments for acne are discussed in earlier articles in this series.

WHAT IS ACNE – A CLOGGED HAIR FOLLICLE

Acne occurs inside hair follicles, which appear as pores at the surface of your skin, and which may also grow hair.

In Search of Optimal Health

Imagine if someone told you that there is a cure for herpes, diabetes, Lyme disease, lupus, MS and many more diseases considered to be incurable life-sentence illnesses by conventional medicine. Wouldn’t you be overjoyed? What if you found out that there are treatments for cancer that are 1000% more effective than conventional treatments? What if you found out that many of these therapies have been available for some time but that the “powers-that-be” such as the FDA, “big-pharma” and insurance companies shut the door on these “alternative cures”?

Does Birth Control Help for Hormonal Acne During Your Period?

Before we dive into the science behind hormonal acne and period acne, let’s briefly touch on genetics. Is acne genetic?

Given that almost everybody suffers from some degree of acne, our genetic endowment is almost irrelevant. Even patients who happened to be identical twins living in the same home and eating the same food had completely different experience with acne.

Having Thick Skin Can Be A Good Thing – By Bree Walker

Repost of an article originally written in 2006

Thick Skin - Bree WalkerIt’s been said that a working journalist must have thick skin but I never thought this expression had literal meaning. Now that I am officially middle age, I am eager for a dermatological thickening of my skin, even, as my heart grows softer with age. Unfortunately, as time marches on, my Scandinavian skin is destined for its ancestral tissue-paper fragility. My inner debate continues whether I should go under the knife and risk that stretched Saran wrap look that so many Scandinavian women suffer after surgical face and neck lifts, or do I opt for a more long-term approach that includes diligent at-home skin care and a willingness to explore new non-surgical technologies?

Wrinkles – Causes, Prevention and Removal

It has been said before that “Wrinkles are a roadmap of your life.”

Well… I’m not sure I want to live my past every time I look in the mirror. I prefer to live in the present with healthy, beautiful and happy skin!

One of the most famous fashion designers of all time was the first to bring to light the topic of wrinkles and aging. Coco Chanel stated that “nature gives you the face you have at twenty.

Microneedling : What is it? Does it Work? What are the Results?

Microneedling : All natural skin tightening and collagen generation

Imagine being pricked 10 times… how about 100 times… no wait there’s more… how about 5,000 times.  To make it even more interesting, how about 5,000 needle pricks all on your face!?
