LYME DISEASE

Since the beginning or recorded history, humans have been afflicted by various pathogens that infect our bodies and make us ill. From sexually transmitted diseases (STD) with bacteria such as syphilis, to pneumonia, meningitis, bladder infections, to infected dog bites, bacterial diseases have been an ongoing challenge that have taken the lives of millions of people throughout history and that inspired the development of the pharmaceutical science of antibiotics.

In the past 30 years Lyme disease has emerged as a serious endemic threat to communities that live in environments, such as the NE USA, where ticks are found that carry the bacteria Borrelia Burgdorferi. The Borrelia infection causes Lyme disease, which has proven difficult to diagnose and treat though conventional medical treatments.
