The 2 Must-Have Summer Products

Posted by Admin on Thursday, July 26, 2012

For all our wonderful patients, it’s important to remember that living in Southern California, it is virtually impossible to "stay out of the sun." Therefore, protecting ourselves from the sun needs to become a daily ritual that we complete "religiously" every day without even thinking about it... like brushing our teeth.  It is so important to apply twice a day, once in the morning before we leave our homes, and mid-day, to replenish its strength, as even the best sunblock lasts only 4-5 hours max.

Finding the best products for your skin can often be difficult, especially when it comes to sun protection. Luckily, we've done all the work and found our top products for you to use in your summer skincare regimen.

Epionce Ultra Shield Lotion SPF 50, 2.5 oz

This is a powerful and hydrating sunscreen that provides full protection. It was one of the first sunblocks that qualified to be categorized as a "Broad Spectrum" sunblock, as it blocked both UVA and UVB energy from the sun.  Thus is provides superior protection against sun burn and skin cancer.  Use it 30 minutes before sun exposure and free your skin from sun damage. An additional highlight of this product is that it is an anti-inflammatory, and has a water base, so it feels light and doesn't clog your pores.

Solar Protection Formula Tizo 3 SPF 40, 1.5 oz

The Solar Protection Formula products are specifically designed to block the complete light spectrum. It's the perfect product to add to your everyday regimen. What we like about it is that it doesn't have any chemical sunscreens, so it may be a better choice for those with sensitive skin. It is also tinted so it disappears when applied on skin with a bit of color in it.

Lastly, though there is no official scale that computes sun exposure to signs of aging, you can be sure that the causative correlation is real. Simply put, the more sun exposure you subject your skin to, the more you are accelerating the aging of your skin. So enjoy the sun, in moderation, and while protecting it thoroughly from sun damage.

Watch it Disappear: Sun Spots

Posted by Admin on Monday, July 02, 2012
Sun spots and skin discoloration can be frustrating, expensive and time-consuming to cover up. With summer swimsuit season officially here, calendars fill up with poolside lounging and beach day vacations that lead to increased UV exposure and can make your spots even darker.

According to ELLE.com, UV exposure "triggers an excess production of melanin, the natural pigment in our skin, resulting in "solar lentigos", AKA sun spots, age spots, or liver spots. Laser treatment, properly done, is the best and most holistic solution to permanently remove sun damaged spots.  At AMA Skincare we use a unique combination of lasers whose energies are gently absorbed by the extra pigment (melanin) which stimulates your skins natural "melanin turnover" system which removes old melanin and replaces it with new evenly toned skin. All spots are not created equal, so it is vital to properly identify your dark spot and customize your treatment accordingly.

Our 25 different laser types give us the opportunity to carefully adjust the procedure to specifically match your skin type and eliminate all skin discolorations. With darker and more defined spots, the melanin is closer to the surface of the skin and requires about 1-3 treatments for it to completely disappear. In less than a week, the discolored skin will flake off and new, clear skin will appear. For peskier spots with irregular and deeper melanin coloration, we recommend 3-6 successive treatments. With a free consultation appointment, we will diagnose your spots and explain the next steps for your non-invasive treatment.
