Unwanted hair is often viewed as the proverbial bane of our beauty blunders. We hate the time involved with shaving (and remembering to), and we can't stand dealing with those we trust to wax all of our precious parts because let's face it - they are always running late!
So after all of your years of waxing, bleaching, trimming and shaving - have you ever stopped to consider the time and cost savings of Laser Hair Removal? Avoid These Habits To Help Guard You From Aging
Posted by Admin on Tuesday, August 17, 2010
Changing these habits can do more than just help you to look better, they can actually help you be healthier too.
We all know that smoking and sun exposure can add wrinkles - and years - to your skin, but you may not know that these 9 habits can also pack a preverbal punch to your looks and add years to you and your body.
1. Not getting your beauty sleep
Many of us cram our housework into the evening ours, and wind up getting only a few hours of sleep. You need to make sleep a priority and try to get 7-8 hours every night. Research has linked lack of sleep to high blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain, and even just looking tired and older.
2. You have a sweet tooth
A diet that's high in sugar isn't just bad for your weight, experts also believe it can make your skin dull and wrinkled too because of harmful little by-products that damage proteins like collagen and elastin. Once damaged, springy and resilient collagen and elastin become dry and brittle, leading to wrinkles and sagging. Try to limit your sugar intake to help balance out your skin and eating patterns.
3. Too much stress
When you spend more time being stressed than not, there is an increase in the concentration of the hormones cortisol and norepinephrine in the bloodstream, which kicks up your blood pressure and suppresses immunity. Continued stress can delay healing, harden your arteries, and possibly shrink areas of your brain involved in learning, memory, and mood. Continuous levels of stress can also keep us from getting the proper sleep that we need on top of everything else.
4. Exercising only for weight loss
If you're only exercising every few months for a couple weeks at a time to try and drop some pounds, then you're missing out on some really major health perks. Those who exercise regularly have longer telomeres - cellular biomarkers that shorten as we age - compared with healthy adults who rarely work out. Regular exercise does good for more than just your weight, it keeps you young too.
5. Listening to too-loud music
Hearing loss usually develops over time, but the addition of iPods and loud concerts can help bring this damage on more quickly. Using noise-canceling earbuds to block out ambient sounds will let you listen to your music without hiking up the volume.
6. You don't make time for your BFFs
One study has found that having satisfying friendships can help protect against obesity, depression, and heart disease, among other health problems. Keeping in touch with your friends regularly can help to keep you young.
7. You don't eat your fruits and veggies
Getting plenty of servings of antioxidant-packed fruits and veggies fight free radicals that can wreak havoc on your body and skin. But did you know that they only remain active for a few hours and must be continually replenished? Try to get in some antioxidants every few hours with every meal to see their benefits.
8. Too few good fats
Avoiding unsaturated fats like those found in fish, nuts, and olive oil, isn't doing your health any good. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for protecting your brain, heart, bones, joints, skin, and more. Monounsaturated fat can lower bad LDL cholesterol, raise cardio-protective HDL cholesterol, and decrease your risk of atherosclerosis.
9. More lovin please!
Sex is more than just fun, it's good for you. Research shows that people with active sex lives have stronger immune systems, less pain, a lower cancer risk, healthier hearts, and less stress. One study even shows that it can make you look as much as 12 years younger.
Heal Your Body With Myofascial Release
Posted by Admin on Monday, August 02, 2010
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue (fascial system) restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential gentle pressure applied slowly will allow the viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate and release. Myofascial Release Therapy is a comprehensive way to treat the body in a holistic manner, by working to target and treat the cause or source of the problem. Symptoms are eliminated in order to make permanent structural changes within the body to help the patient return to a pain free active lifestyle.
What causes pain, and why are doctors most often unable to detect the source of our pain through standardized testing?
Trauma, inflammatory responses from injury or overuse, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) An extremely high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems. Most patients go undiagnosed because the fascial system is not visible on x-rays and scans.
Why is Myofascial Release utilized as a healing and pain relief technique?
The use of Myofascial Release allows the therapist to look at each patient as a unique individual. One-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapies are utilized. With each patient, our specialist prides himself on the promotion of independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.
What does Myofascial Release Therapy treat?
- Headaches & Migranes
- Fibromyalgia
- Myofascial Pain
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Women’s Health Issues
- Pelvic & Menstual Problems
- TMJ Dysfunction
- Neck & Back Pain
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Restriction of Motion
- Acute & Chronic Pain
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Repetitive Stress & Sports Injuries
- Scoliosis
- Neurological Dysfunction
What are Myofascial Release Treatments like?
Each Myofascial Release Treatment session usually lasts 60 minutes, and is performed directly on skin WITHOUT oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia. Wearing loose shorts and a small tank top or loose fitting sports bra is the perfect attire to ensure that the therapist can access each part of the body while making sure that you are comfortable and relaxed during your session. Multiple modalities of light stretching, gentle pressure, along with a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapies are utilized throughout each session. Most often the patient will leave each session feeling extremely relaxed, grounded, balanced and in better alignment.
What is Fascia or what is called the Facial System with our bodies?
Fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider’s web or a sweater. Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as, all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it is not just a system of separate coverings. It is actually one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. In this way you can begin to see that each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a sweater. Fascia plays an important role in the support and function of our bodies, since it surrounds and attaches to all structures. In the normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When one experiences physical trauma, emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, the fascia will lose its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Trauma, such as a fall, car accident, whiplash, surgery or just habitual poor posture and repetitive stress injuries has cumulative effects on the body. The changes trauma causes in the fascial system influences comfort and function of our body. Fascial restrictions can exert excessive pressure causing all kinds of symptoms producing pain, headaches or restriction of motion. Fascial restrictions affect our flexibility and stability, and are a determining factor in our ability to withstand stress and perform daily activities.
